I think the title is self explanatory; this post has nothing to do with movies.
Let me just tell you: if you’ve never been to Greece before, than you definitely should in the near, near future. It’s absolutely beautiful and makes for a very interesting experience. I stayed in Potos, on Thassos island and we only passed through Kavala on the mainland.
If you’re not a fan of clear, azure waters, dry heat, white sand beaches and seafood, then Greece is not your ideal vacation destination, but let’s face it..who isn’t a fan of all of those?
To be honest, the heat does get to you, especially during the nights. From my seaside, I’m used to colder temperatures during the night, but in Thassos it’s just a teeny tiny bit colder than during the day and in a room without an AC that makes sleeping difficult.
And the water is so incredibly salty, you can’t swim or dive properly, it just brings you back up to the surface. Makes a perfect learning swimming place.
Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of fish or any seafood before this trip, but the way they prepare and serve the food there you’d have to be crazy to pass it up; it’s delicious. I’m still not a fan of ouzo, but the wines – white, red and rose all dry – are really good.
One of the things I found most interesting/weird is their habit of closing everything down between 2PM and 6PM. Markets, stores, even the banks in Kavala were closed during that time and if not for the tourists, Potos would have seemed down right deserted. Working just a couple of hours a day definitely gives a new meaning to having an easy job.
All in all, it was an awesome experience and I’d recommend visiting Greece to anyone who hasn’t been before. Try an island first, before a trip on the mainland, it’s worth it.
So there you go, my short post explaining why I’ve been MIA. Two reviews will come soon: Ice Age Continental Drift and Total Recall – seriously..a remake?! Hmm.
